Prayer, which is described by St. Teresa as “an intimate sharing between friends” is at the heart of our lives. It is expressed in silence and solitude, lived in a loving and caring community.

Contemplative prayer is a gift; it is God’s work, his taking possession of us. We can do nothing to merit it, yet we can and must prepare ourselves for this gift.

Our Lady is our true model of contemplative prayer. She was open and receptive to God’s love and pondered his word in her heart. As contemplatives we pray and live for the Church.

“A Carmelite is one who stands in prayer before God for his people.” – St. Edith Stein.
